Abstract:
In modern elementary particle physics and accelerator technology, synchrotron machines play a significant role in which a beam of charged particles moves in a closed circle, accumulating energy. To create the desired beam path, a magnetic system is used that creates the main field for the beam to travel along a given path. Historically, the magnets in this system are usually connected in series, for equal currents and magnetic fields in each element. This approach reduces the stability requirements for the supply current, but increases the power required from the power source. In the VEPP-3 booster ring of the VEPP-3/4 collider, mechanical motor generators have been used for a long time. A motor generator, like any mechanical energy storage and recovery system, had a number of drawbacks for this task, from low efficiency and mechanical runout of the shaft to sparking brush collectors and the need for frequent preventive maintenance to replace these brushes, in addition, these systems are outdated both physically and physically. This paper describes a new main field power supply based on a 600 kW bipolar thyristor rectifier with an output current of up to 15 kA and a voltage of up to 40 V, covered by an external digital feedback loop, which receives the value of the output current from ultra-precision DCCT. This architecture of source construction allows to obtain long-term stability of the output current up to 10 ppm. An ethernet interface is used to control the source.
